Charles Causley (1917-2003) is widely regarded as Cornwall's finest poet and has an international reputation. He lived and taught in Launceston, Cornwall for most of his life. His poetry is remarkably varied - character sketches of his friends, ballad-type stories, poems arising from his naval experience and many aspects of his beloved Cornwall. Causley's poetry is deeply thoughtful and often witty - meditations on what he called "life's cold truth".
The evening of poems and commentary was chaired by John Hurst of the Causley Society and Jane Nancarrow provided expert readings,
Truro College students were also involved, reading the two prize winning poems on subjects inspired by Causley.
